Linkin Park scores #1 Music Video Premiere On MySpace Music

As Linkin Park's "New Divide" was standing tall atop the Alternative Airplay charts, its companion clip debuted to record numbers, becoming the No. 1 music video debut so far this year on the MySpace Music site. The eye-popping clip, directed by Linkin Park's Joe Hahn, drew a staggering 1.8 million viewers in its first four days (cumulative views are now well over 2 million), illustrating the dominance of video consumption on MySpace Music. "New Divide" has also been the No. 1 video on MySpace each day since its launch.

"We're thrilled with the strong premiere of the 'New Divide' video," said Courtney Holt, President of MySpace Music. "It's a tribute to the incredible drawing power of Linkin Park and the impact we can have together. The premiere extends our successful track record of creating special events that resonate with music fans around the world."

To celebrate the film's opening, Linkin Park (vocalists Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda, drummer Rob Bourdon, guitarist Brad Delson, DJ Joe Hahn and bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell) will give a special free performance on June 22 in Los Angeles. L.A.-based radio station KROQ is staging a massive promotion to give some very lucky fans tickets to the event.

Brad the fascinating wonder
Mike posted a blog today that said this about Brad's speech:

Brad Delson is one of the world's most fascinating wonders.

I spoke at Art Center's graduation only a short time ago. When I was preparing for that speech, I did a lot of research, watching videos and reading speeches. If I had come across Brad's speech at that time, I would have stopped writing mine entirely. I would have just called Brad and begged him to write it for me!

Brad to keynote UCLA commencement
UCLA:
Brad Delson, a UCLA alumnus and lead guitarist for the Grammy-winning band Linkin Park, will deliver keynote remarks at the UCLA College of Letters and Science commencement ceremony on June 12, campus officials announced today.
Delson earned a bachelor's degree in communication studies from UCLA, graduating summa cum laude in 1999. His band Linkin Park was signed by Warner Bros. Records in 2000 and has released three albums that have sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. The group's unique blend of alternative rock, hip-hop and electronic music has earned them critical praise, numerous industry honors, Grammy awards and an international audience of millions of devoted fans.
Delson and his bandmates are devoted to several social causes. Linkin Park established a nonprofit organization called Music for Relief to aid victims of world catastrophes and combat global warming. Since its establishment, the organization has raised nearly $3 million, helping victims of the South Asian tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and the recent Southern California wildfires.
Delson and his wife established the Delson Scholarship Fund at UCLA, which annually awards four-year scholarships to extraordinary students from Huntington Park, Calif.
"Brad Delson is not only an innovative musician, but he is also a social activist who is committed to change through education," said Judith L. Smith, dean and vice provost for undergraduate education in the UCLA College of Letters and Science. "I am thrilled that Brad will be helping to commemorate this important occasion in the lives of our graduates and their families, and we are grateful that he has agreed to do so on short notice."
The ceremony, which will take place in Pauley Pavilion, is the primary commencement event for UCLA's graduating seniors.
Delson was picked based on recommendations from a selection committee after the scheduled keynote speaker, actor and UCLA alumnus James Franco, canceled the week prior to the event because of filming commitments.
In a prepared statement provided to UCLA, Franco said: "I deeply regret not being able to keep my commitment to giving the commencement speech at UCLA's graduation this year. Unfortunately the date conflicts with me needing to be on location to begin pre-production on my next film. I wish everyone in the 2009 class the best of luck in all of their future endeavors."
UCLA is California's largest university, with an enrollment of nearly 38,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The UCLA College of Letters and Science and the university's 11 professional schools feature renowned faculty and offer more than 323 degree programs and majors. UCLA is a national and international leader in the breadth and quality of its academic, research, health care, cultural, continuing education and athletic programs. Four alumni and five faculty have been awarded the Nobel Prize.

Blog: More than meets the eye
Brad posted a blog on his Linkin Park page on the 18th of May, and I finally noticed that today. SO here is what he said...mrgreen

When Michael Bay asked us to contribute music to the newest Transformers movie, we were honored. We felt "What I've Done" worked great in the first film, and were eager to provide another song that captured the essence of robots-destroying-other-robots energy. Our only problem: that song didn't exist.

So over the next seven weeks, we set out on a rather ambitious adventure--to create from scratch a piece of music that would represent not only the band, but a multi-bajillion dollar, worldwide movie franchise. And it wasn't easy. Though the bones of this particular track materialized swiftly, the devil is almost always in the details.

At the end of the process, and through an amazing amount of teamwork, we completed our journey. The result is four-and-a-half minutes of sonic storytelling--one part classic LP, two parts electro exuberance, and one part mechanical mayhem. We simply call it "New Divide."

Hope you enjoy.

By the way, who all saw that clip at the MTV Movie Awards? SO excited for Revenge of the Fallen!!!!!!!wink
